A woman was caught taking nearly R$ 1,000 that fell to the floor after another customer withdrew the amount at a lottery outlet in Taguatinga, Federal District. The incident happened at the same establishment where, days earlier, an employee attempted to steal a Mega-Sena winning ticket.

According to witnesses, the suspect was being attended at one of the counters when she noticed the bills on the ground. She interrupted her transaction, picked up the money, and quickly exited the store in the opposite direction of the victim, who was unaware of the situation.

The lottery reported the theft to the police, and security cameras captured the exact moment the woman picked up the money. Identified through the footage, she was taken to the police station and stated during her deposition that “finders keepers.”

At the station, the suspect admitted she didn’t know who had dropped the money and confessed to already spending the entire amount. She claimed the funds were used to pay internet, water, electricity bills, and an outstanding loan.

The woman was charged with misappropriation of found property, signed a court appearance agreement, and was released.

The customer who lost the money only realized the theft later when she reached into her purse to grab some cash to buy a pineapple. Unaware that the money had fallen, she left the lottery and was surprised to find it missing.

The police are continuing their investigation and remind the public to remain vigilant in busy places. Security cameras remain crucial tools for resolving similar cases.
